Let’s face it. Every second advert we see on Social Media or elsewhere seems to claim that they have found the fountain of SEO success which will secure you the number 1 spot on Search Engines. If we consider the sheer amount of websites out there it becomes tempting to secure the services of the service provider promising immediate search engine results.

If we stand still for a second and think about it…There can only be one top ranking page per search word(s). On Google for example, only 9 or 10 websites can end up on the front page per search genre.

Why then, do these self-proclaimed SEO experts continue to claim that they will ensure top rankings for your website? Do not get me wrong on this one. There are certainly very good SEO companies out there. The self-proclaimed experts however know that not every business owner will fully understand Search Engine Optimisation.

This brings us to the questions we will look at in the two parts of this article. What would be considered good search engine results for a company and how long will it take to obtain satisfying SEO results?

Good search engine results:

At risk of stating the obvious, good search engine results can be equated to getting potential clients directed to your website when they search for a product or service that you offer. For some people it can be seen as getting more traffic to your website than before. It can also be seen as a higher than average search engine ranking. The ultimate good result would be to have your webpage displayed on the front page of any search engine out there. This is also the belief that many business owners may have when they contact a SEO Company. There are actually SEO companies claiming that they can achieve this.

Good search engine results in our minds at WebScripto is a relative concept which will most definitely be defined differently by different business owners. The actual reason why business owners want to have good SEO results is to sell more with a view to increase their profit margins

Now that we have some idea of what good search engine results may be it may be necessary for us to look at how soon after implementing SEO strategies you will notice more hits on your website. I have used the term “SEO Strategies” and not strategy. This is simply because there will be many different strategies to meet your ultimate SEO goal(s).

Please allow me to immediately set one very important matter straight. SEO is not something that is ultimately achieved. It is an ongoing process that consists of many different elements. Each element will have its own strategic little goal to make your website more available and place your website in a position to properly compete with other business websites. It will serve us all well to understand that there can be only one number 1 position following a search enquiry at any one of the biggest and best known search engines. It is also extremely important to remind ourselves that there can only be so many search results displayed on the front page. Whilst we are reminding ourselves of important realities it may be advisable to also consider the fact that not all SEO strategies are equally successful for different companies.

In our next post (part 2) we will look at various strategies, their success rates, the amount of monetary and time investments in each of these, as well as realistic timeframes within which these strategies can be expected to bear fruit. More importantly we will also consider strategies that you can implement yourself with some surprising degree of success. Unfortunately it will not include any claim to place your website at the top of search engine results.
